Chinese New Year Concert at Philharmonie Berlin

About the Event

Since its acclaimed debut in Vienna's Musikverein in 1998, the Chinese New Year Concert has captivated nearly a quarter of a million listeners in over 16 countries. Combining traditional Chinese music, orchestral works, virtuoso solos, and artistic costumes, this sensational gala creates a truly intoxicating New Year's experience. Each year, a renowned Chinese orchestra visits the West to showcase the distinct music and instruments of their region. In the upcoming concert, the China National Traditional Orchestra, led by chief conductor Li Xincao, will ring in the Year of the Dragon. Notably, Zhao Cong, the president of the orchestra, is a leading pipa soloist, elevating the performance with his exceptional artistry.

The extraordinary concert experience was founded by Jezhou Wu and his son Jiatong Wu. Inspired by the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert, Jiatong dedicated himself to intercultural cultural exchange. He firmly believes that just as much as the Chinese appreciate European music, their ancient music, with a history spanning over 5,000 years, also deeply resonates with Europeans. This idea blossomed into a tradition that has become an unprecedented success story.
