Beethoven & Bruch: Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

About the Event

The RLPO, and rising artists Simone Lamsma (violin) and conductor Alexander Shelley present works by Beethoven, Shostakovich and Bruch's beautiful Violin Concerto.

Good things come in small packages! Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony might not be his longest, but it packs a terrific punch. It’s a real musical firecracker, and it’s the hilarious climax of this latest, tune‐packed instalment in the Beethoven series. Conductor Alexander Shelley knows how to make things fizz, so there’ll be rapid‐fire wit in Beethoven’s dramatic Coriolan Overture, and knockabout farce in Shostakovich’s delightfully daft Second Ballet Suite – a musical raspberry in the face of anyone who still thinks that Shostakovich didn’t know how to have fun! As for Bruch’s First Violin Concerto, there’s a reason why it’s the world’s best‐loved violin concerto. But you’ll never hear anyone play it with more panache – or romance – than Simone Lamsma.

Choose from the wide variety of high‐calibre concerts offered in Liverpool this season.
