Ballet Nacional de España
About the Event
Immerse yourself in the magnificent architecture of the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville for an extraordinary ballet performance that will captivate your senses. This unique show brings together the art of photography, flamenco, and dance to create a mesmerizing experience. Renowned Colombian fashion photographer, Ruvén Afanador, whose portraits of celebrities from the film and music industry are highly regarded, has collaborated with the Ballet Nacional de España (BNE) to present a groundbreaking new choreography at the Teatro de la Maestranza.
Breaking free from the confines that often separate different artistic expressions, choreographer Marcos Morau, director of La Veronal dance company and recipient of the National Dance Award in 2013, draws inspiration from Afanador's ability "to envision characters by forging real people" and his creative use of light and shadows. This collaboration gives birth to a show that is influenced by a photographic interpretation of flamenco, a subject that Afanador has explored extensively in his books and artistic endeavors. As an outsider to the world of flamenco, Afanador's love for the genre and his appreciation for its raw and powerful nature have fueled his artistic vision.
Together, they strive to merge the languages of photography and dance in order to create a "new universe" and construct fresh imagery through the unique perspective of another artist. This exercise is driven by respect and fascination, as they seek to combine two distinct art forms into a harmonious whole.
Under the direction of Sevillian director Rubén Olmo, the National Ballet of Spain will bring to life Ruvén Afanador's visual portrayal of flamenco. According to Morau, this performance represents "a radical and somber beauty that demands our unwavering attention."
