Martin Helmchen — Piano Recital at Rudolfinum
About the Event
Martin Helmchen decided to frame his recital with Franz Schubert's sonatas. The pianist's extensive discography includes a number of Schubert's compositions, including his complete works for violin and piano with violinist Julia Fischer. Schubert in his performance is thus a frame of gold. The image in it will be 'a boat sailing on the moonlit Lake Lucerne', as the music critic and poet Ludwig Rellstab wrote in 1832 about Beethoven's sonata. But the painting will also be a bit modern Sofia Gubaidulina, a Russian artist living in Germany, wrote Chaconne in 1962, weaving in religious symbols that were her way out of the difficult situation in Russia.
