About the Event
The third subscription concert of this season will open with “Notturno Ungherese” by the famous Hungarian composer Miklós Rózsa. 'Notturno' generally refers to a musical form of a nocturnal piece with a melancholic or meditative character, here processed with distinctive Hungarian melodies and rhythms. Rózsa often combined traditional musical roots with modern techniques in his works, and this piece, reflecting the composer's love for Hungarian folk music, is no exception.
We’d also like to remark upon John Williams, an American composer, whose work has become a matter dear to our hearts. He has composed music for more than a hundred films and consequently won a number of awards and accolades. We regularly like to include his works in our musical programs. On this occasion, audiences can listen to the official Czech premiere of his Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, which Williams wrote in 2009 for the American violist Cathy Basrak. This evening, the solo part in the concerto will be performer by the Czech violist Kristina Fialová, who has been praised by professional critics on account of her perfect technique, fiery temperament and sophisticated musical sensitivity.
The concert will conclude with Erich Wolfgang Korngold and his post‐war Symphony in F sharp major. This symphony has often been labelled the composer’s “masterpiece”. Gustav Mahler himself described young Korngold as a “musical genius”, who in addition to composing classical music, also composed for films. Symphony in F sharp major is the composer’s only completed symphony to date.
