D'une Amérique à l'autre: Orchestre Pasdeloup
Paris, La Seine Musicale
About the Event
From Dixieland to Márquez, via Bernstein, traverse the worlds of tango, jazz and musical comedy under the direction of Vincent Renaud-Émeriau. We begin our journey in New York with Leonard Bernstein and his overture to Candide and the modern‐day Romeo and Juliet: West Side Story. The Capulets and the Montagues give way to the Jets and the Sharks, two youth gangs from Manhattan's Upper West Side. You'll dance to Puerto Rican rhythms and be seduced by Tony and Maria's intense, universal love story.
Let's continue our journey to the American South and a classic jazz style that originated in New Orleans: Dixieland. In the early 1900s, jazz orchestras featuring trumpet, clarinet and rhythm section were spreading across America. This style was embodied by legendary trumpeter Louis Armstrong, and also by composer, pianist and singer Lil Hardin Armstrong, Armstrong's wife and author of Struttin' with some Barbecue.
Finally, we end our South American journey with tangos by Arturo Márquez, the incomparable ÁstorPiazzolla and an ambassador of contemporary tango: Gerardo Di Giusto.
