Born from the fusion of Italian immigrant labor with local mestizo traditions, tango is among the world's great dance forms, coupled with a century‐long collection of passionate music. Most Golden Age tango remains largely unknown outside Argentina.

Tango became a global sensation through the influence of one remarkable figure: Astor Piazzolla. Initially an outsider in his own country, Piazzolla merged New York jazz, Argentine folklore music, and tango, crafting Tango Nuevo—a revolutionary style of dance music meant for audiences to sit and savor.
