Debussy Preludes by Candlelight — Strand International Piano Series with Daniel Grimwood
London, St Mary Le Strand Church
About the Event
St Mary le Strand, known as the 'Jewel' of the Strand, is hosting the third Strand International Piano Series, following its highly praised launch in the 2022‐23 season.
This year's series centers on Debussy's Preludes. Written between 1909 and 1913, these works exemplify Debussy's pioneering approach to piano composition and his expertise in impressionistic techniques. The two books of preludes, each featuring twelve pieces, demonstrate Debussy's skill in conjuring vivid imagery, moods, and atmospheres through his music.
Daniel Grimwood, renowned for his expertise in 19th‐century virtuosic piano repertoire, is celebrated internationally. His acclaimed recordings and performances of Adolph von Henselt's music have cemented his reputation as an innovative and inspiring musician. Gramophone Magazine declared his recording of Henselt's Complete Etudes as an 'instant classic,' dubbing it the piano release of 2023.
