Dresdner Musikfestspiele: 'Verdi‐Requiem'
Dresden, Kreuzkirche Dresden — Main Hall
About the Event
A breathtaking rendition of Verdi’s Requiem is to be presented, featuring the Dresden Festival Orchestra alongside a superb ensemble of vocal soloists. Giuseppe Verdi, the master of Italian opera, embraced a new challenge in 1874 by composing a requiem. His Messa da Requiem brilliantly utilizes the powerful tools of musical drama. Addressing concerns about the piece's religious appropriateness subtly, Verdi commented, “I am working on my mass, and with considerable delight. It appears I’ve turned into a solemn figure, no longer just a jester to the crowd, banging the drum and beckoning ‘Enter, enter’.” This stirring masterpiece, renowned for its emotional depth, will be performed in the iconic Kreuzkirche with the newly established Dresden Festival Choir and a distinguished group of soloists. The notable Far Eastern conductor, Lan Shui, will lead the orchestra. Embracing the theme “Music Festival for Everyone,” this event promises an intense, majestic, and powerful exploration of Verdi’s legendary work, played on period instruments.
