Belgian National Orchestra, Hermus & Li
Brussels, Palais des Beaux‐Arts — Henry le Boeuf Hall
About the Event
Experience the enchanting tones of classical masters Maurice Ravel, Franz Liszt, and Albert Roussel at the esteemed and globally acclaimed Palais des Beaux‐Arts in Brussels. The performance will include selections from Albert Roussel's ballet Bacchus et Ariane, followed by the talented American pianist George Li confronting Franz Liszt's First Piano Concerto, a virtuosic test teeming with fast‐paced octaves, complex flourishes, and rapid arpeggios.
Maurice Ravel's celebrated orchestral masterpiece, the ballet Daphnis et Chloé, was originally commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev for the Ballets Russes. The ballet's narrative, choreographed by Michel Fokine, is inspired by the pastoral novel by ancient Greek author Longus. Ravel’s score captures the essence of this idyllic tale with its vivid, orchestral textures inspired by the pastoral themes of 18th‐century French art.
