Boléro — Ravel with Eleonora Abbagnato
Bologna, Comunale Nouveau
About the Event
A tribute to Maurice Ravel, a composer so closely linked to the world of dance, on the 150th anniversary of his birth (1875 — 2025). Boléro — Ravel is the title of the new production to the music of the French master, conceived by Roman patron Daniele Cipriani and entrusted to the skilful hands of choreographers Sasha Riva and Simone Repele, a creative tandem born of their shared studies at John Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet and now based in Geneva. Nicknamed the “poets of dance” for the delicate and elegant poetry they manage to infuse into each and every movement and gesture of the body, Riva&Repele shape in this performance a kind of choreographed artistic biography, in which they freely retrace the main stages of Ravel's life, enlivened by the encounter with iconic figures of Tersicore's art such as Serge Diaghilev, Vaslav Nijinsky and Ida Rubinstein, while savoring his most celebrated compositions. Returning to the Nouveau stage for the occasion will be diva Eleonora Abbagnato, former étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet and current director of the Corps de Ballet of the Rome Opera. She is, in fact, entrusted with the interpretation of the Boléro, sensual and iconic ballet, created in 1928 on choreography by Bronislava Nijinska for Ida Rubinstein and then revisited in the following years by legions of authors, up to this new version signed by Riva&Repele. This seals the 2025 Dance Season of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, celebrating legacies that are still alive and able to inspire.
