About the Event
Cuarteto Rotterdam has made a name for itself worldwide through its technical brilliance and interpretative depth. As one of the best European tango ensembles, Cuarteto Rotterdam is highly praised by the press: “Excellent ensemble playing”, “A great moment for tango”, “The best and most interesting tango music I've heard in a long time”, and “This top‐class European tango quartet is inspiring” are just a few of the exuberant reactions of recent years.
The classic quartet formation with bandoneón, violin, piano and double bass promises a sound experience between tradition and modernity. The small tango orchestra conjures up a tango world for every kind of emotion on stage with its creativity, imagination and experience.
Together with Noelia Tomassi, one of the leading singers of her generation, the Cuarteto Rotterdam will enchant the audience with a wide repertoire from the history of tango. The show dance of the renowned dance couple Andrés Santel and Celeste Medina promises to be another highlight of the evening.
As multiple prizewinners of international competitions in Klingenthal (Germany), Trani (Italy) and Castelfidardo (Italy), the quartet has graced stages in Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris, as well as in Buenos Aires, the United States and Canada.
For them, tango is passion, virtuosity and power. They are aware of tradition and bring works from the different tango eras to the stage. They feel so connected to the demanding Tango Nuevo of Astor Piazzolla that the deeply felt melancholy and complexity of this music is always tangible in their interpretation. In their engagement with 21st‐century tango, their concert and dance program features contemporary Argentinean and European tango compositions.
