A first‐class orchestra under the direction of Igor Budinstein brings the exciting program to life. Playful melodies and sophisticated playing techniques alternate with romantic moments and symphonic sounds.
Maurice Ravel – one of the main representatives of French impressionism – wrote the famous orchestral piece as a commissioned work for the French dancer Ida Lwowna Rubinstein. The Bolero captivates with its art of simplicity and plays – as the composer himself once said – with a single element of variety: the crescendo of the orchestra, which increases in volume over the course of the 15‐minute performance.
The piece was premiered with a dance group. With his unconventional compositional style for the time, Ravel paved the way for later avant‐garde movements in music.
