Palau de la Música Catalana
The Palau de la Musica Catalana is a breathtaking structure located in the northern part of Barcelona's Old Town. An architectural gem of the Catalan Art Nouveau movement, constructed from 1905 to 1908, its lavish interior showcases the craftsmanship of local artisans through stained-glass windows, ceramics, sculptures, paintings, and blacksmithing. The venue's extensive glasswork results in a brilliantly luminous interior. The building's dusty red facade is adorned with busts of renowned composers including Bach, Beethoven, and Wagner, along with colorful floral-patterned mosaics. At the heart of the Palau lies the splendid concert hall, naturally illuminated by sunlight thanks to the extraordinary skylight at the center of its richly adorned ceiling, making it a beloved venue for symphonic and chamber music. Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the architect behind the Palau, intended to create a “garden for music”—an ambition he masterfully realized.
Giacomo Puccini
Giacomo Puccini was an Italian opera composer of the late 19th century. He was considered one of the greatest composers of the Italian Opera, second only to Verdi. His early works were characterised by features of the traditional 19th century romantic Italian opera. Later, his style developed into the realistic verismo style, which inspired him to write his most famous masterpieces and became one of the leading exponents of the style. His most renowned works La bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904), and Turandot (1924), all are popular operas played in the most prestigious venues of the classical world.
