Saint‐Saëns' Organ Symphony and Bruce Liu plays Ravel

About the Event

'Bruce Liu, with his rapier fingers, is an unlikely virtuoso,' wrote the Volkskrant about Liu's solo recital at The Concertgebouw last December. Now he is soloing in Ravel's jazzy Piano Concerto along with the China NCPA Orchestra and conductor Myung‐whun Chung. The orchestra, along with organist Hansjörg Albrecht, also plays Saint‐Saëns' beloved Organ Symphony.

Bruce Liu enchants with Ravel
Since winning the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2021, Liu has been performing worldwide with the best orchestras in the most beautiful venues. He has also been a guest at The Concertgebouw several times. His solo recital last December in the Great Hall was a great success. Thundering virtuosity and tranquil lyricism go hand in hand,' says Trouw. And 'Bruce Liu, with his quick fingers, is an unlikely virtuoso,' according to the Volkskrant. He returns to Amsterdam with Maurice Ravel's swinging and radiant Piano Concerto in G together with the China NCPA Orchestra.

Symphony no. 3 by Saint‐Saëns
The nickname of Camille Saint‐Saëns' Third Symphony already betrays why orchestras love to perform this work in The Concertgebouw. The impressive Maarschalkerweerd organ in the Great Hall is the perfect 'partner in crime' for this 'Organ Symphony'. Saint‐Saëns wrote the symphony in 1886 and was himself very pleased with the result. The organ is used in the symphony not so much as a solo instrument, but blends with the orchestra, creating a majestic overall sound never before heard in a symphony.
