About the Event

The Orchestre de chambre de Paris returns to The Concertgebouw with Beethoven's powerful Sixth Symphony, the “Pastorale. The inspired musician Maxim Emelyanychev is guest conducting and soloing himself in one of Mozart's finest piano concertos. 'I take on the role the music asks of me,' he said on the occasion of his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Maxim Emelyanychev plays Mozart
He regularly wins awards with his own baroque orchestra, Il Pomo d'Oro, and his Mozart interpretations as a pianist are overwhelming. 'I am now predominantly active as a conductor, but I feel like a musician in a broad sense. I take on the role the music asks of me,' Maxim Emelyanychev said in an interview in NRC ahead of his debut as conductor with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2021. Tonight, the Russian multitalent creeps into a Mozart‐style double role: he leads the orchestra while also playing the virtuoso solo part of Mozart's sublime Piano Concerto No. 22.

Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 'Pastorale'
Maxim Emelyanychev can be admired as conductor in Beethoven's 'Pastorale' after the intermission. This Sixth symphony owes its nickname to the pastoral nature of the music, which expresses the power and beauty of nature. From the call of the cuckoo and a flowing stream to a merry peasant dance and a summer storm. Emelyanychev has collaborated many times with the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, which will be a guest at The Concertgebouw for the second time this summer.
