Havana Lyceum Orchestra: Mozart y Mambo

About the Event

The phenomenal Cuban Havana Lyceum Orchestra and hornist Sarah Willis return to Het Concertgebouw with the finest songs from the three Mozart y Mambo CDs. From rousing Cuban dances and hits like Guantanamera to Mozart's First Horn Concerto. Highlights from Willis' latest album Sarahbanda will also be heard.

Mozart y Mambo
'I never dreamed Mozart y Mambo would become so successful,' hornist Sarah Willis told The Concertgebouw prior to her first performance with the Havana Lyceum Orchestra in the summer of 2023. Those who think of music for horn will not immediately think of traditional Cuban music. Yet in Mozart y Mambo, Willis, hornist in the Berliner Philharmoniker, plays the most appealing Cuban dances on her instrument, interspersed with Mozart's finest compositions for horn. From traditional Cuban dances and hits like Guantanamera to Mozart's First Horn Concerto.

Sarah Willis & Havana Lyceum Orchestra
Those who do not know Sarah Willis need only watch one video on her YouTube channel to discover that she has an enormous passion for her instrument. And she tries to share that passion with as many people as possible with unparalleled charm, for example with the Mozart y Mambo project. Together with the young, talented musicians of the Cuban Havana Lyceum Orchestra and conductor José Antonio Méndez Padrón, she has already recorded three swinging albums. During their second performance at The Concertgebouw, they combine the most beautiful songs from Mozart y Mambo with highlights from Willis' latest album Sarahbanda.
