Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 and Rachmaninoff 2 with Alexander Malofeev
Amsterdam, Concertgebouw — Main Hall
About the Event
The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra brings with it two top young talents for Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto and Dvořák's Eighth Symphony: piano virtuoso Alexander Malofeev and the winner of the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam, which will be announced on June 13 following the finale at De Doelen.
Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2
After Alexander Malofeev, also called the “newest phenomenon of the Russian piano school,” won the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in 2014 at the age of 13, his career took off at lightning speed. In addition to his high‐profile solo recitals, he can also be heard regularly as a soloist, including Rachmaninoff's virtuoso piano concertos. 'In Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, the young Russian pianist unmistakably confirmed that he is a great virtuoso,' Bachtrack said of his impressive performance with the Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.
ICCR winner conducts Dvořák's Symphony No. 8
The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra comes to The Concertgebouw this summer with the winner of the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam (ICCR), which takes place from June 11‐13, 2025. Six finalists will compete for the honor, and the best finalist will get to conduct Dvořák's exciting Eighth Symphony two months later in the Great Hall of Het Concertgebouw.
