About the Event
With her Rachmaninoff interpretations in The Concertgebouw, Ukrainian pianist Anna Fedorova scored many millions of hits on YouTube. This time she plays Rachmaninoff's First Piano Concerto. The Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra will also play Brahms' Third Symphony on its debut at Het Concertgebouw, conducted by Dionysis Grammenos, the orchestra's founder.
Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 1
'She enchants and moves,' wrote music magazine Listen about Anna Federova's impressive recording of Rachmaninoff's First Piano Concerto in 2020, awarded five stars by BBC Music Magazine. The Ukrainian pianist has since recorded all of Rachmaninoff's piano concertos, and she has also performed all four live at The Concertgebouw in The Sunday Morning Concert. The First Piano Concerto, with an extremely challenging solo cadence in the first movement, is exuberant, emotional and virtuosic.
Symphony No. 3 by Johannes Brahms
Anna Fedorova has previously been a guest of the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra, founded in 2017 by Greek conductor Dionysis Grammenos. Under his direction, the youth orchestra impressed at home and abroad, with recent highlights being performances at Konzerthaus Berlin and Carnegie Hall in New York. With Brahms' elegant and compelling Third Symphony, the young Greek musicians are now performing for the first time in The Concertgebouw. Before intermission they will also play the spiritual Larghetto for Orchestra by the successful contemporary composer James MacMillan.
