Alma Quartet
Amsterdam, De Waalse Kerk
About the Event
The Alma Quartet celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with a festive recital! The four musicians, who met at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, together form an ensemble with an undeniable chemistry.
Their impressive discography has received worldwide praise and they have played at the most prestigious venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Konzerthaus in Berlin. However, the quartet also does not shy away from adventure and has entered into challenging collaborations with artists such as singer‐songwriter Nana Adjoa and the New Cool Collective Bigband.
Tonight you will hear Beethoven's String Quartet No. 13, one of his later works, known as perhaps one of his most moving compositions. Also performed will be Janáček's String Quartet No. 2, “Intimate Letters. In this work, the 74‐year‐old Czech declares his love for the 40 years younger, and married, Kamila Stösslová.
In addition to these two classic string quartets, brand new work by the young American composer Samuel Adams, indeed, the son of John Adams, will be played.
