Bach – The Art of Fugue at Church of St. Simon and St. Jude
Prague, Church of St. Simon and Jude (Kostel sv. Šimona a Judy) — Main concert hall
About the Event
Mahan Esfahani is not a man who sets himself small goals. His determination to establish the harpsichord as an instrument worthy of new compositions by contemporary composers and recitals in the great, famous concert halls of the world is proof of this. Nor is this concert a small goal, for he has chosen the supreme polyphonic work of all time. Bach's Art of the Fugue is so complex that musicologists have argued for centuries about whether it is even possible to perform it on a single instrument. That the Iranian‐American‐Czech artist will succeed, however, is a foregone conclusion. After all, he has succeeded in all his challenges so far, whether it was studying at Stanford, giving a recital at the BBC Proms or at Wigmore Hall!
