The Bösendorfer Piano Series is a series of intimate piano recitals in which nine top pianists shine behind our Bösendorfer Imperial Grand grand piano.
As winner of the 10th International Liszt Competition, of course Liszt cannot be missing from a recital by Mariam Batsashvili. She closes the Bösendorfer Piano Series with two of his Hungarian Rhapsodies. She pays tribute not only to Liszt, who by the way was the inventor of the piano recital as we know it today, but also to other composers who have been of great significance in the development of the piano repertoire. Thus she plays Bach's transcription of Marcello's oboe concerto, a joyful sonata by Haydn, Chopin's dreamy Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante and Mozart's very last sonata ever. A dream ending!
Georgian Mariam Batsashvili (b. 1993) is undoubtedly considered one of the most promising artists of her generation. Her big breakthrough on the international stage followed in 2014 with winning the 10th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht, at the age of 21. She released several albums, including the 2019 Volkskrant's four‐star award‐winning “Chopin & Liszt: Piano Works” with the Warner Classics label, having already debuted in 2016 with the CD ‘Early Transcriptions,’ featuring arrangements of Bach, Handel and Mozart, among others. In 2022, she launched her album “Romantic Piano Masters.” It characterizes the versatility of Batsashvili, who, thanks to her flawless technique, effortlessly navigates between different styles and stylistic periods. With the program she has in store for us tonight, that comes in handy.
