Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo: Mahler Festival #3
About the Event
During Gustav Mahler's tenure as the second director of the Leipzig Stadttheater, he had a transformative encounter with the fictional anthology Des Knaben Wunderhorn by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano. This significant event took place while Mahler frequented the home of Karl and Marion von Weber and attended the orchestration of fragments from Weber's opera Die drei Pintos. It was during this period that Mahler's connection with Wunderhorn came to life, igniting the three fundamental aspects of his musical temperament: the sense of drama, the sense of the popular, and, above all, the sense of the religious.
The Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, under the baton of conductor Manfred Honeck and featuring the extraordinary baritone Matthias Gorne, presents an exquisite program at the Auditorium. This program reaches its climax with a monumental symphonic fresco from the era of Arnim and Brentano's Des Knaben Wunderhorn: Beethoven's Eroica Symphony!
