About the Event
In 2025, the Apollo Ensemble chooses a passion by Stölzel. For many people an unknown name. But almost everyone knows the song “bist du bei mir” . It is known as a work by Bach, but not Bach but Stölzel is its composer. Bach liked it very much and therefore included it in the famous “Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach” hence everyone thought Bach composed it. Stölzel composed much more beautiful music: “Jesu deine Passion” a passion in the form of six completed short cantatas, “Andachten,” for four singers and instrumental ensemble. Moving, sometimes dramatic, sometimes hushed. For the Apollo Ensemble — after the Brockes passions — this is a great find. The passion cantatas are punctuated by instrumental sinfonias by J.S.Bach.
