Cappella Neapolitana: Scarlatti & Veneziano
Lo spettacolo
Discover music for Passiontide from the Neapolitan school. Noted musicologist and conductor Antonio Florio brings his Cappella Neapolitana, and the acclaimed Ghislieri choir, to the Concertgebouw to perform Easter music by Alessandro Scarlatti and Gaetano Veneziano.
Scarlatti's Stabat Mater has retained its popularity, and Florio brings celebrated soloists, including Sara Mingardo and Roberta Invernizzi, with him to do it full justice. By contrast, Veneziano, who succeeded Scarlatti as Master of the Royal Chapel, has fallen into unfair obscurity. Raffaele Pe, Luca Cervoni and Marco Bussi sing the Evangelist, Christ, and Pilate in Veneziano's 'Passion according to St John', returning the work to its rightful place alongside other classics of the genre.
